Jerry Douglas' solo on My Life Is In Your Hands

The notation for this lyrical Jerry Douglas solo is a little cumbersome, but expresses some of the nuances involved in Jerry's playing. Between bars 2 and 3, the tie indicates to hold the F# across the bar line, with the slide to the E happening a split second before beat 2. For clarity, I've used similar ties throughout the solo to indicate phrases connected by slides or slurs, rather than pick attacks.

The quintuplets at the bottom of page 4 are most likely raked with the thumb, and the index or middle finger playing the subsequent A.

Page 2, bar 11, looks harder than it sounds; listen closely to the recording for the timing. Bar 14 similarly is one long phrase with just one pick attack on the first note.

This beautiful tune reminds me of some of Russ Barenberg's beautiful melodic compositions.
